Breast-milk flan recipe: gourmet sweetness for baby.

When we breastfeed, we soon discover that our milk is a real treasure: nourishing, comforting and full of benefits for our baby.

But sometimes we end up with extra milk in the freezer or fridge. Instead of wasting it, why not turn it into a healthy, homemade treat?

Breast milk flan is perfect for this: a simple, gentle, baby-friendly recipe that bridges the gap between breastfeeding and food diversification.

Why make a breast-milk flan?

Breast milk flan isn’t just a recipe, it’s also an experience full of meaning:A familiar taste: baby recognizes the taste of your milk and is reassured.A step towards food diversification: the soft texture is ideal for the first discoveries.A moment of sharing: cooking for baby, but also for the rest of the family. An anti-waste approach: use your pumped or frozen milk rather than throwing it away.

Flan recipes with breast milk

Here are a few ideas for simple, baby-friendly recipes. They can all be made with your breast milk, according to your wishes and your baby’s needs.

Plain breast milk custard :

  • 200 ml breast milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

👉 Gently mix the ingredients, pour into small ramekins and bake in a bain-marie at 160°C for 25 minutes. Leave to cool before serving.

Vanilla custard with breast milk :

Same base as plain flan, but with a scraped vanilla pod or a drop of natural extract (alcohol-free). This delicately perfumes the flan and makes it even more delicious.

Egg-free custard (light version) :

  • 200 ml breast milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon homemade compote or a little sugar

👉 Gently heat the milk with the cornstarch, stirring until thickened. Pour into jars and leave to set in a cool place.

Breast milk custard with gelatin :

  • 200 ml breast milk
  • 1 sheet gelatin (softened in cold water)
  • 1 teaspoon compote or natural vanilla extract

👉 Warm the milk (without overheating to preserve its nutrients), add the wrung-out gelatine and mix well. Pour into molds and refrigerate for several hours.

Breast milk custard with agar-agar :

  • 200 ml breast milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon agar-agar
  • Option: a little vanilla or fruit purée

👉 Heat the milk with the agar-agar, leave to simmer for 1-2 minutes, then pour into ramekins. Leave to cool in the fridge.

Flan with breast milk and fruit :

Prepare a plain flan, then add a small homemade fruit purée (banana, apple, pear) once cooled.

Storage and preparation instructions :

  • Use fresh or gently thawed breast milk in the fridge.
  • Never refreeze a flan made with thawed milk.
  • Keep your custards in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  • Adapt textures and flavors to your baby’s age and tolerance.

Conclusion : a baby recipe full of love!

For me, breast milk flan isn’t just a recipe: it’s a way of extending the unique bond of breastfeeding into diversification. A homemade sweet, reassuring and delicious, that can be shared with the whole family.

With tenderness,

Milkymum 💕
